It’s comforting to know that the illogical waste of so much of my life - awash in booze, shirking my responsibilities to myself and my family - has an explanation firmly grounded in science.

Seriously, though, it is amazing how powerfully we cling to our current state and how vigorously we resist change, even as that state disintegrates daily. I absolutely blame myself for those lost years, primarily because I feel it’s my own laziness and selfishness that allowed the decay of my standards to take hold. And while I’ve stopped digging the hole, I need to continue the work of climbing out.

Working on my physical fitness. Working on my relationships with my wife and children. Working to maximize my professional potential and personal happiness.

It’s all work. And that seductive bitch Inertia tempts me daily to keep my lazy ass happily here at rest. An important concept to keep in mind when I’m inclined to wallow in my accomplishments to date. Cheers, all.
